Runescape...banner ad slows game?

Okay, when my son's playing Runescape on his laptop there's a banner ad that is almost always coming up. It's for a cell phone company, it's one of those ads that flashes and moves alot. It really seems to slow the game radically, but doesn't seem to affect the desktop PC. Is there any way to fix this to make the game run better on the laptop?
