New PS3 or repair mine?

About 6 months ago my PS3's Blu Ray laser blew out and i was wondering if i should just buy the $80-100 part and have my dads friend fix it or just get a brand new playstation? i guess theres no guarantee that the part i buy is gonna work since they come from used playstations, yet the new ones gonna wring me out 300 bucks... What do you suggest?
